CAITE – MEMBER OF THE MONTH:

“I have been a keen member of norths Fitness since 2009. I LOVE the classes and have tried quite a few. I change classes once or twice a year to keep challenging myself.

My overall motivation is to live a happy, healthy and fit life. I also have a short term goal to lose around 10 kgs so I can fit into my red dress when I travel overseas later this year!

I love food, particularly when consumed with family and friends with a glass or 2 of wine. I’ll eat anything delicious! To counter the slowdown in metabolic rate that comes with age, I eat smaller portion sizes, ramp up the veggie content, keep the fat content low and use low GI carbohydrates. I enjoy the challenge of creating delicious meals following these principles.

I have also been working to improve my fitness over the last few years and through the classes at norths Fitness, I have been able to achieve good results. I really appreciate how the trainers plan routines that look at different areas of the body & address fitness goals. Having the routines regularly updated ensures I can’t become complacent and the metabolic impact remains high. I attend 3 – 4 classes each week including Group Groove with Coralie (we’re going to miss you… sniff!), Fit, Firm and Flexible with Avril (that new track 3… it’s hard!) and Rooftop Warrior with Mike and Ryan (stop scheming up new challenges!). More recently I’ve started Personal Training with Ryan and Tuesday nights with Anne & Alison. This session, in conjunction with the Warrior class on Saturdays has really helped ramp up my fitness and strength levels this year. And just as we start to feel comfortable with a routine, Ryan will change it so we can’t rest on our laurels!

I’d recommend the Warrior class. People have told me they think the class is too difficult for them & while I agree it is a challenging class, it is something you take at your own pace. And over time, you will be able to do more and more. Not being a runner, I find the warm up jog around the block to be a challenge! As I round the corner from Palmer St into West St, my lungs immediately go into panic mode and all I want to do is stop. Over time I have learnt how to keep going and I can now run the block without stopping, though I am still the slowest runner in the group. I’ll know that I’ve really improved when I manage to overtake someone!

Carly and her team put a lot of thought into the programs and facilities at norths Fitness. I am very grateful to the norths Fitness team for their care & support.

Maybe I’ll see you in the next Warrior class soon… everyone is welcome… especially if you are a slow runner!”

Chris Celebrates 25 Years as a Member

CHRIS – MEMBER OF THE MONTH:

Chris is our winner of the Biggest Groupie Competition having completing an outstanding 144 Group Fitness classes over 8 weeks! She is a legend in our eyes having been a norths Fitness member for 25 years – what is it that keeps her coming back?

“I enjoy getting fit with my friends and fellow gym members. They spur me on to be even fitter and stronger each day!” Chris says, “My desire to stay fit and healthy for as long as I can keeps me coming back to norths Fitness and I love the Group Fitness classes so much. My favourite class is Group Groove, I love moving my body to the music!”

Abby’s an Athlete in our Eyes

ABBY – MEMBER OF THE MONTH:

Abby is our proud and worthy Member of the Month having come to norths FITNESS in desperation weighing in at 106kg in December. He has since fallen in love with MMA Fitness class and has since lost over 10kg! What is Abby’s secret weapon for success?

“I changed my diet, cut out alcohol completely and eating more fruit and vegetables. MMA Fitness has been a real motivator for me – Ryan and Michael are great instructors! I have to say my best advice is to find a class that matches your character and personality, you will find that you’ll enjoy it and be committed for the long term. Improve your mind and the body will follow! ”

Kimbo’s Power of Positive Thinking

KIM HEWITT – MEMBER OF THE MONTH:

Five years ago Kim Hewitt (Kimbo) was in a serious accident. He was run over by a car which resulted in two crushed vertebrae and a seriously damaged leg with a 50% loss of bone structure. Weighing in at 136kg, Kim faced a dramatic moment of truth when doctors told the wheelchair bound, overweight 50 year old they wanted to amputate his leg.

Kimbo’s amazing fitness journey has been an inspiration to the staff and members of norths Fitness who have seen his amazing transformation. From being a dedicated member of norths Fitness for 5 years he now teaches Aqua aerobics at norths Fitness as an instructor himself.

Here’s what he had to say:

What have you achieved in regards to your fitness and how did you do it?

I’ve been going to norths Fitness for 5 years now and I’ve lost 50 kgs. I started off doing aqua aerobics after my accident and now I have completed certificates in Fitness at TAFE and am teaching these classes myself! I’ve also recently embarked on starting my own business called Living Strength. Norths fitness instructors, Carly and Coralie, were always friendly and encouraging, inspring me to do what I never thought possible.
What is your motivation?

I have a love for live and fitness is my passion. It’s a real motivation to be able to do what I see kids in their twenties doing.
What is your favourite exercise and why?

An abdominal roll-out. This is really challenging and is great for your abs and strengthening your shoulders. The exercise is performed on your knees holding a barbell out in front and rolling it forward and backward across the floor.
What advice do you have for those who want to achieve something similar?

Take one step at a time. Everybody wants it straight away – but take little baby steps and you’ll get there.

 

 

Amir’s Amazing Weight Loss Success

AMIR MORSHEDIZADEH- MEMBER OF THE MONTH:


Please tell us a little about what you have achieved in regards to your fitness (goals) and how you have achieved this:

My aim was to lose weight so I would be able to play football and basketball with my mates without feeling like I’m going to pass out.

So far I have lost 24kg and find I definitely have a lot more energy now. I go to the gym for an hour and a half, five to six mornings each week.

I start with weights then move onto cardio, usually the treadmill. To finish up I work on my abdominals.  My brother also works out and he has helped me a lot.  It really helps having someone else there to push you and motivate you to keep going.

 

What is your motivation?

Shoe Laces! Anyone who has ever been overweight will know exactly what I mean.

 

What is your favourite food and why?

Extra trim beef rump steak with baked seasoned vegetables and a side dish of light pasta.

It’s a very tasty meal with very little fat.

 

What is your favourite exercise and why?

I love the feeling of walking to the shower once I have finished my workout.

I hated every minute of training, but as a great man once said, “Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion” – Muhammad Ali

 

What advice do you have for those who want to achieve something similar?

Be realistic with your goals and don’t be too hard on yourself when you make a mistake. If you eat bad food or miss a day at the gym don’t worry just get back on track the next day.

Tom Knows It’s All About Attitude

TOM ROBERTS – MEMBER OF THE MONTH:

Tom is a regular at norths fitness, and stands out from the crowd due to his attitude and willingness to give everything a go. He participates in the gym challenges, asks the trainers questions and isn’t afraid to try something new. Find out why our staff thing Tom’s so terrific!

 

What have you achieved in regards to your fitness and how did you do it?

I’ve increased my core and back strength a lot, and my overall strength has increased as well. I’ve achieved this mostly by doing several types of abdominal training, which were taught to me by the trainers, mostly Will, Mike and Ryan.

 

What is your motivation?

My motivation was originally to be stronger when playing football, but now my motivation is increasing my overall strength and keeping healthy.

 

What is your favourite food?

Barramundi and veggies

 

What is your favourite exercise and why?

Currently my favourite exercise is a roll out on my toes, it’s really challenging for a single exercise!

 

What advice do you have for those who want to achieve something similar?

To anyone else I would say to talk to the trainers and take their advice. Also do not be disheartened if you don’t see results instantly, it takes time.
